June 20 • When God Repeats Himself

One powerful way God gets our attention is through confirmation. This is when God gives you a message, and then you hear it from someone else, confirming what God has already said to you. When this happens, God is trying to get your attention so that you really take what He’s communicating seriously, so you don’t forget, and to hold you accountable.

It’s kind of like adding an exclamation mark at the end of a sentence or bolding a paragraph to highlight that this point is super important. When the angel told Mary that she would birth the Messiah, she was called blessed. Then, when she went to see her relative Elizabeth, Elizabeth said very similar words, calling Mary blessed. Elizabeth confirmed to Mary what God had already spoken.

Similarly, when God told Joshua to be strong and courageous before leading the Israelites into the Promised Land, the people also said the same thing back to Joshua. They told him to be strong and courageous, confirming what God had already said.

God is not afraid to repeat Himself and when He does it’s always in our best interest to listen. Matthew 11:15 says:

“He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” (Matthew 11:15 ESV)

May we have spiritual ears to receive all the ways God is speaking.

Pray: Heavenly Father, thank You for speaking to us and confirming Your messages. Help us to recognize and take seriously the confirmations You give us. Strengthen our faith and guide us in responding to Your guidance. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Reflect: Can you recall a time when you received confirmation from multiple sources about something God was telling you? What steps can you take to act on the confirmations God gives you?
