Running with endurance is counter to our hustle culture.  We live in a culture that tells us to bulldoze our way through the day, work every waking second and be a proud members of team no sleep.  This is due to our fear of falling behind, not being successful, and leaving money on the table.

So we rush through life constantly thinking of what’s next and not fully enjoying life in the now. We’re pressed to think, we can’t stop or we’ll get too far behind. All that pressure isn’t getting us further ahead. Actually, it’s causing us to lose passion for the things we once loved because the only thing we can focus on is going fast now.  Scripture, however, is telling us to run with endurance. Hebrews 12:1 reads:

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1 ESV)

When we run with endurance we can face the day with peace.  We do this knowing we don’t have to get it all done today because the race isn’t given to the swift but the one that endures to the end.

Dear Heavenly Father, I pray for the strength today to pace myself. Please help me to run from a place of peace and not pressure. I love You. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, amen.
