The other day a reader asked me to provide her with scriptures to help with her anxiety. This request really touched my heart because I too struggle with anxiety. The first scripture that I immediately thought to share was 1 Peter 5:7 which says:
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7 NIV)
Thinking on this scripture, I always envisioned our ability to take off the anxious thoughts that weigh us down and place them at the feet of our God. But as I typed out the scripture to respond to her question, the last few words really stood out to me: “because the Lord cares for you.” The scripture could have simply said, “don’t be anxious,” right? But the reason why we should not be anxious is what’s key. God cares about us. He loves us. He will provide for us. We can exchange our anxiety for peace because we serve a God who is not only capable but willing, a God who cares.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for caring so much for me. May I rest in your care today and be free from anxiety. In Jesus’ Christ’s Name I pray, amen.
