August 18 • Don’t Give Up on Your Harvest

Every time I read Galatians 6:9 the words “do not give up” always stood out. I understood that the prerequisite to reaping was not giving up. However, the last time I read this verse, something else stood out to my attention: reap. Reaping implies there is sowing of seed first. We’re prone to want to quit and give up right after planting the seed, and before it blossoms so we can enjoy its harvest. This is in between seasons after panting prayers, good works, and having faith. It’s when we’ve faithfully done our part and now wait for the results. Galatians 6:9 tells us:

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9 ESV)

It’s after planting and right before reaping, that we are most tempted to become weary and want to give up. However, this is when we must not give up.  Just like a seed first grows roots underground before it can break through the ground, the result of our prayers and effort may not always immediately be evident, but they are working. God is always working, even when we can’t see it, so we should never allow what we see to cause us to give up faith in what God can do.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the courage to plant; I now ask for the strength to wait on You. I trust You even when I can’t see in the physical. I know You are working for my good and Your glory. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
