August 19 • My Weakness for God’s Strength

It’s common to think in challenging situations that God has left us, but this theology is counter to what the Bible actually says. When Paul asks God to remove the thorn in his flesh in 2 Corinthians 12, God responds:

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV

After this response from God, we see a shift in Paul. He then says:

“Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV)

Paul goes from wanting to rid himself of this affliction to being glad because of it. Why? It is because of God’s grace. Your situation cannot erase God’s grace on your life. Your weakness cannot stop God’s plans for you. Your infirmities cannot stop God from completing the purpose for your life.

Our shortcomings may limit and stop us, but by God’s grace, they will not stop Him. God’s grace does not discriminate. If we are ever at a loss of what to be thankful for, God’s grace will suffice. Grace is the free and unmerited favor of God. This means God’s favor is not something we can earn and it’s not something we can lose. No matter where we are, what we’ve done, who we are, or who we are not, God’s grace is upon us.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your amazing grace. I pray I am reminded of Your grace to me each and every day and that my heart fills with gratitude because of it. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
