I was sitting on the couch the other day, and my baby boy came and snuggled beside me, looked up at me, and smiled. My heart melted and filled with joy at the same time. At that moment, I was reminded that when you love someone more than life itself, they don’t have to do much to delight you. God then reminded me that that’s how He thinks of us. As our loving Father, He takes delight in simply being in our presence. 1 John 3:1 reminds us:
“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.” (1 John 3:1a ESV)
Often, we have overcomplicated how we spend time with God. We worry about whether we’re spending enough time, whether we’re using the correct prayer structure, or worshiping the right way. But God just wants us. He just wants us present in His presence. He simply delights in us because we are His. He is filled with joy every time we decide to pause for a quiet moment with Him and just be.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the peace that Your presence brings. I pray for the grace to draw near to You with less worry and more faith. In Jesus Christ Name I pray, Amen.
