October 21 • That Your Joy May Be Full

I’ll be the first to admit I have a very good life, but I would never want to confuse anyone into thinking the joy I have comes from the stuff I have. My joy comes from opening my heart to receive whatever it is that God has for me. For me, it’s being a wife, a stay-at-home momma of two, and ministering to women through Beloved. But for you, it might be something completely different. A fast-paced career life, a missionary traveling the world, or even a professional athlete. The joy does not come from what we have or do, but from simply being in the will of God. John 15:11 tells us:

“These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” (John 15:11 ESV)

Many times, the kids and promotion and/or degree will be God’s will for our life, but when we trust in Christ, our joy will not be dependent on them. When we trust in Christ, we have the freedom to wake up each day, loosed from the chains of people pleasing, self-doubt, pity parties, and comparison, and simply find joy in doing God’s will… that day.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the fruitful, joyful, and full life that You offer. I pray for help to live an obedient life that glorifies You. In Jesus Christ’s Name I pray, Amen.
