Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were thrown into a fiery furnace because they were unwilling to bow down to a false God. Their unshakable faith in the One True God is inspiring because they could have avoided the blazing furnace altogether. They could have lied, compromised, or manipulated their way out of this frightening situation. But they choose to stand firm in their faith anyway. When the King threatened to kill them and asked who would save them, then they responded:

“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.” (Daniel 3:16-18 ESV)

Where does such great faith like this come from? I believe that the main reason they have this strong faith is because they decided a long time ago that they would not bow to another God. They made this decision long before facing their blazing furnace. Every journey towards an unshaken faith like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego’s starts at the same place: a decision. Have you decided Beloved? Are you all in with God? Because your decision now will determine how you face your fiery furnace later.

Dear Heavenly Father, I pray for the grace to choose You, to make up my mind, heart, and soul to be all in with You. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
