November 29 • Running on Empty

Everything in life seems to run out on us. We use up gas in our car and need to go to the gas station. We use up energy throughout the day and need to sleep at night. We use up calories and need to eat more food. When we’re running empty, there are usually clear signs it’s time to fill back up. And the same is true for our souls. Just like our bodies and our cars, our souls need to be filled up as well.

The problem is we usually fill up our spiritual cravings with physical means, only leaving us more empty and dry. We run to a fast food restaurant, or another person, or a Netflix binge when we really need to be running to our true source of fulfillment: Jesus Christ. In John 4:14, Jesus tells us:

“But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:14 ESV)

When you’ve tried it all and still feel thirsty, I want to encourage you to run to Jesus and let Him fill your soul like no one or nothing else can.

PRAY: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for filling me up like nothing else can. May I run to You for my refreshment and satisfaction all the days of my life. In Jesus Christ’s Name I pray, Amen.
