Day 1: Where Advent Began
Reading: Genesis 3:13-15
Advent, the season where we celebrate the coming of Jesus Christ, doesn’t start in the New Testament but in Genesis. It’s here where we learn of our need for the Messiah. At the fall of man, everything changes, and we are no longer close to God. However, as Adam and Eve received their consequences for disobeying God, we find a promise to make things right again.
“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” (Genesis 3:15 NIV)
As God curses the serpent who deceived Eve into disobedience, God reveals that Eve will be the bearer of children, and it is through a child born of a woman that the serpent will be defeated. That child is Jesus Christ. It’s all the way in Genesis that the waiting for our Messiah starts because it’s here where the need for a Messiah begins. Although mankind was cursed for disobedience, God still blessed us with the hope for salvation. This is what advent is all about.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for making a promise to save Your people. I rejoice in the truth that no matter how challenging life gets, You are a promise keeper. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
