Day 6: Immanuel
Reading: Isaiah 7:13-14
To confirm His promise, God gave His people a sign to know that their Messiah had come. Isaiah 7:14 says:
“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14 NIV)
The sign was 3-fold: a virgin, a son, and the name Immanuel. God was gracious to give His people signs so they could be sure when His promise had been fulfilled. The name Immanuel means “God with us.” God wants us to know that He would come to us and that we don’t have to try to earn our way to Him. That’s the promise we celebrate this Christmas season.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your grace to ensure we receive Your promise to make a way to reconcile our relationship with You forever. May I always have eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart to sense what You are doing in my life and the lives around me. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
