Day 11: Faith in the Impossible
Reading: Luke 1:34-38
Believing the impossible is a prerequisite to our faith in God, so it doesn’t surprise me that God would use an impossible situation to bring His Promised Son into the world. Without impossible situations like Mary’s, we wouldn’t need faith. This Christmas, God doesn’t just give us a Son; He gives us the faith that can do the impossible.
Mary teaches us that we don’t have to understand everything to choose faith in God and to trust Him. Mary didn’t say she understood when Gabriel told her she would conceive a child, although she was a virgin. She simply said:
“I am the Lord’s servant. May it be to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38 ESV)
Impossible situations are gifts and blessings from God to grow our faith so that we can experience His miracles in our lives. If we didn’t face these impossible situations, we wouldn’t grow or have any real faith at all. Faith grows in the face of the impossible, not when everything makes sense.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for meeting my faith with miracles and doing the impossible. I pray for the strength and mind to always choose faith in what You can do. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
