Day 13Mary’s Praise

Reading: Luke 1:46-56

We can learn what Mary believes about God by reading the praise that she gives to God at Elizabeth’s home in Luke 1:46-56. This portion of scripture is called The Magnificat (mag·ni·fuh·kaat) which roughly translates to “praises” or “magnifies” in the English language. Instead of thinking about the challenges that her blessing brought, she says:

“And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.” (‭‭Luke‬ ‭1‬:‭46‬-‭47‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

Mary praises God for looking on her humble condition, for showing His mercy from generation to generation, and for keeping His promises.

Mary teaches us we don’t have to have all the information to trust God’s character and to understand that no matter what we face, God is greater. Mary doesn’t have everything figured out, but her praise focuses on what she knows for sure: God is good.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I praise You for who You are. I praise You for your love, generosity, and kindness to me. Although everything is not perfect in my life right now, I pray for focus to keep my mind on Your goodness. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
