When we think of the change in our lives that we want for ourselves, many times we know what we need to do, but we don’t do it because we just don’t feel like it. However, it is not wise to base the course and direction of our lives on our feelings. Proverbs 29:11 tells us:
“A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back.” (Proverbs 29:11 ESV)
Feelings come and go, so if we’re waiting for our feelings to change before we change, it may never happen. Sometimes, we need to be disciplined and do what we need to do and let our feelings catch up to our actions.
Change does not happen simply because we feel like changing. Change happens when we put one foot in front of the other to do what we know is right and to go where we know we are called despite our feelings.
I’m not saying your feelings don’t matter and to lock them up in your heart and act like they don’t exist. I’m saying don’t allow your feelings to rule your life. If they do, you’re putting your feelings in a position where only Christ should be. I encourage you not to make an idol of your feelings and to trust God with them instead.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for leading and guiding my life. I pray for the strength to follow Your lead over the leading of my feelings alone.
In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
