One would think being happy is an easy thing to do, especially when life is going well. Yet even during good times, anxiety can crush our hopes for happiness even when nothing bad has actually happened. Sure, things may be good now, but we can’t even enjoy life because we’re anxiously waiting for the other shoe to drop. Things may be good now, but we worry how long it will stay that way.
This is no way to live. God didn’t intend for us to live guarded, trying to protect ourselves from what’s next. The Bible tells us: “When times are good, be happy.” (Ecclesiastes 7:14a)
Anxious thoughts cause us to live in fear, wondering when the next bad thing will happen. I encourage you to enjoy the moment and the life God has graced you with right now. Think on all the good that’s happening in your life, and be happy.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for all the good You have blessed me with. I pray for the strength to enjoy now and not worry about tomorrow. In Jesus Christ’s name, I pray, Amen.
