In a race, the last thing you want to do is look back. Doing so takes your eye off the finish line, and it causes you to get off track. To win, a runner needs to stay focused on what’s ahead.

The same is true for our relationship with God. The apostle Paul says in Philippians 3:13, “Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.” (ESV)

If we don’t want to become distracted with the things of this world, and if we want to stay faithful to our commitment to Christ, then we have no time to look back and become discouraged by our past mistakes. We have no time to look at our side and become distracted by someone else’s race.  I want to encourage you today to look ahead, stay focused, and finish strong.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the new life I have in You. I pray for strength to stay focused and not to become distracted with what’s behind.

In Jesus Christ’s name, I pray, Amen.
