To protect themselves from spiritual warfare, the Apostle Paul writes believers in Ephesians 6:17 to “Take the helmet of salvation.” (ESV) A soldier’s helmet, at the time of Paul, would have been made of leather and studded with metal for extra protection. Sometimes these helmets would have some sort of extra design on them to signify the particular regiment the soldier belonged to.
When we put on our helmet of salvation, it signifies that we belong to God. He has spared no expense to save our souls through the ultimate sacrifice of His one and only Son, Jesus Christ. God has sealed us with His Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit now dwells in believers as a deposit that God will come back to get what is His. We have eternal life which is why the helmet is that of salvation.
So, the next time the enemy goes for your head, put on your helmet of salvation and remember whose you are and that eternal life is yours in Christ.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that I am Yours and You are mine. Help me never to forget that I am part of Your family forever. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
