God loves us with the desire that we will love Him back. It’s not because He needs our love, because He doesn’t, but because He knows our loving Him is good for us. When we don’t love God, we find ourselves clinging to lesser things instead of our greater God. Jonah 2:8 says:
“Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them.” (Jonah 2:8 NIV)
God is taking the idols out of your life, not because He’s mad, but because He loves you too much to let you waste your life traveling an empty path headed nowhere. He has so much more for you that can only be found in His love alone. Praise God, He makes that love readily available to us whenever we turn to Him.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love that is greater. Please help me not to become distracted from Your love, but abide in You, Your love, and Your Word always. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
