March 6 • Contentment- The Secret to a Joyful Life

Contentment is a state of satisfaction. It’s being happy right where you are. One of the most popular scriptures on contentment is Philippians 4:12-13, which says: 

“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:12-13 NIV) 

The Apostle Paul had to learn contentment because contentment is a learned behavior. It’s continuously realizing our feelings don’t have to be led by our circumstances. Contentment helps us to appreciate what we already have. We don’t need to seek happiness because we already have joy. We don’t need to seek fame because we are already known by God. Because of God and who He is, we can experience the joy that comes from being content. 

Prayer: Dear God, Thank you for helping me to be content in the current season I am in.  Forgive me for times when I’ve allowed my feelings to dictate my contentment. During times of restlessness or frustration, renew my mind daily to focus on You and Your faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, amen
