A focused life is a joyful life. Jesus sets this example for us in Hebrews 12:2 that says:
“Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2 ESV)
Jesus was focused on His mission. Not even the suffering He endured on the cross could take away His joy. As we look to Him, as the scripture tells us, we find joy because He is our source of joy. When I don’t have my glasses on or contacts in, everything is out of focus. I can’t see clearly, and what appears to be one thing to me might actually be another. In the same way, this world has a way of spiritually blurring our vision. A challenge looks impossible, and a problem seems hopeless when our focus is off. But when we focus on Jesus, our vision becomes clear. We can see He’s still in control, and we can see everything is going to be okay when we have our focus right.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for being the ultimate and sustaining source of my joy. When my focus is too much on my circumstances and drifts away from You, thank You for redirecting me back to You. When I am clearly focused on You, I am reminded that You are in control, and my joy is always found in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
