The Apostle Paul makes this command really clear for believers: Do not be anxious. This is not a suggestion or a good idea. When it comes to anxiety, Paul’s advice is just don’t do it. Philippians 4:6-7 says:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7 ESV)
Anxiety steals space in our hearts and minds where God’s peace should be. In turn, it always takes our joy. Instead of being anxious, we should be prayerful. Instead of worrying, we should be thankful. This is how we overcome anxiety to live the joyful life that is ours in Christ.
Prayer: Dear God, I surrender all my anxiety and restlessness over to You in prayer. Thank you for Your peace that calms and covers me daily and reassures me that I don’t have to worry. When I feel anxious, help me to shift my focus to giving You praise. In Jesus’ name, amen
