Have you ever had a day when your to-do list was overflowing, distractions were endless, and peace felt like a distant dream? I’ve learned that when I feel this way, it’s often not because my circumstances suddenly got worse—but because my focus shifted.
One of my favorite Bible stories is when Peter walked on water (Matthew 14:22–33). As long as Peter kept his eyes on Jesus, he did the impossible. He literally walked on water. But the moment he focused on the storm—the wind, the waves, the chaos around him—he started to sink.
It’s the same for us. Isaiah 26:3 says:
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” (ESV)
Peace doesn’t come from everything being calm around us. It comes from a mind stayed on God. When our focus drifts—toward the problems, the pressures, or even just the noise of life—we start to sink too.
But here’s the good news: every single time you choose to turn your thoughts back to Jesus, you’re choosing peace. It could be through a whispered prayer, a moment of worship, or just reminding yourself of one of God’s promises. However small, that decision to refocus brings you back to the place where peace lives.
So if peace feels far, don’t panic. Just check your focus. God hasn’t gone anywhere—and He’s ready to lift you above the waves.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, when life feels overwhelming, help me to fix my eyes on You. Bring my wandering mind back to Your truth and fill me with the peace that only You can give. Teach me to trust You more than I fear the waves. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
