April 25 • The Beauty in Breaking

Let’s be honest—no one wants to be broken. We pray for strength, stability, and peace. We want things to feel solid, whole, held together. But what if the very thing we’re praying against—brokenness—is the very thing God wants to use for us? 2 Corinthians 4:6-7 says:

“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.” (ESV)

God places His power, His light, His glory in fragile, imperfect vessels—like you and me—on purpose. Because when those jars crack, that’s when His light shines through.

Think about it:

  • An egg has to be broken before it can be enjoyed.
  • A woman’s water must break for new life to be born.
  • Darkness breaks at dawn so the sun’s light can shine through.

Breaking is painful, yes—but it’s not always bad. In God’s Kingdom, brokenness is the very thing that makes us stronger. It’s where His power meets our weakness. It’s the process that allows His glory to shine through the cracks of our pride, our plans, our fears, and our failures.

We can try to hold it all together. We can strive, perform, and put on a brave face. But deep down, what we’re really afraid of is falling apart. And yet, sometimes that’s exactly what needs to happen—not so we can stay broken, but so God can build something better. Something brighter. Something more whole than we ever imagined.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I confess I don’t like brokenness—but I trust You with mine. Help me not to resist what You want to do in me. Use every crack, every tear, every weakness to let Your light shine through my life. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
