April 28 • Why Pride Kills Confidence

Many women confuse pride with confidence, but the two couldn’t be more different. Pride says, “Look at me, I’m better than others,” while confidence rooted in God says, “I am secure because of who God says I am.” Pride leads to insecurity because it constantly compares, competes, and craves approval. It’s like carrying a water bottle with a hole in the bottom—you’re constantly trying to refill what keeps leaking out. But James 4:6 tells us:

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (ESV)

When we anchor our confidence in God’s unchanging love, it’s like drinking from a well that never runs dry. Humility is the key to that kind of confidence. As C.S. Lewis once said, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less”. The more we fix our eyes on Christ instead of ourselves, the more confident we actually become. We then find ourselves free from the pressure to perform or prove anything. In a world constantly telling us to “be the best,” Jesus invites us to rest in being His.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, please help me to release pride and the need to prove myself. Teach me to walk in humility and place my confidence in You alone. Free me from constant self-focus and comparisons, and let my heart rest in Your grace. May I find true confidence in who You’ve created me to be. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
