Let’s be real—when life doesn’t go the way we hoped, our first instinct is to try to take control. We think, “If I can just fix this, handle it, control it…” But in trying to manage everything ourselves, we often leave little room for God to move. And here’s what I’ve learned: true power doesn’t come from control—it comes from surrender.
Now, I get it. The word surrender doesn’t exactly feel powerful at first. We often picture it like waving a white flag, admitting defeat, or giving up. But that’s not true. In the Kingdom of God, surrender isn’t weakness—it’s victory. You’re not surrendering to defeat—you’re surrendering to a God who is fighting for you.
God tells us in Isaiah 55:8-9 that His ways are higher than ours. But if we insist on forcing our own way out of fear—fear that He’ll let us down, fear that His timing is off, fear that we’re on our own—we close off the very peace, power, and presence that only God can provide. 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us:
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (ESV)
Again, surrender isn’t you giving up. It’s you making space for God to show up. So I encourage you to let go of the need to control, and let God lead you to something greater than you could ever imagine.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, please forgive me for the times I’ve tried to control things out of fear. Teach me that surrender is not weakness but a doorway to Your strength. Help me to trust Your way, Your timing, and Your heart for me. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
