Day 12: Blessed is She Who Believes
Reading: Luke 1:39-45
When Mary visits her relative Elizabeth, who is also pregnant, the baby in Elizabeth’s womb leaped, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In the Spirit, Elizabeth exclaimed:
“And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.” (Luke 1:45 ESV)
Both Elizabeth and her baby knew what the angel had already confirmed: Mary was favored and blessed. It’s important to understand, however, that Mary wasn’t blessed because she had a husband or high status in society or a lot of money. We know she didn’t have any of that. She was blessed because she took God at His word. When we believe in God, we are blessed because we then hold the faith that we can do the impossible in our lives. The greatest gift we can unwrap this Advent season is not found under a Christmas tree but the faith in God that we hold in our hearts.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of belief because You are true to Your Word. May I always reap the blessing of believing in You. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
