You know that feeling like something is missing, or what life has to offer is not enough? Yeah, that’s God showing you His love. Wait, what? Yes, a deep longing for more in life is God showing you His love, as He is not allowing the things of this world to fill you so that He can fill your soul as only He can. 1 John‬ ‭2‬:‭15‬-‭17‬ says:

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.” (1 John‬ ‭2‬:‭15‬-‭17‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

The Bible tells us not to love the world because God knows there is nothing this world can offer better than Himself. It’s the same reason why I don’t feed my kids candy for dinner. Those empty calories won’t give them the nutrients and energy they need to flourish and grow. It’s not that I want my kids to have boring dinners, but that I want them to have food that sustains them. Yes, candy tastes good, but what is that worth if you’re sick? In the same way, God loves us too much to give us things that are not good for us. So what is the best for us? God Himself. So don’t become discouraged when He removes all the empty calories from your life. That’s just Him making space to truly nourish your soul so you can flourish in Your love.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for satisfying me with good things, so I have no need to seek the empty things of this world. May my love be for you first and always. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
