The Bible tells us that Jesus offers us life and life to the fullest, but we will never experience that full life if we don’t allow God to have complete control of our lives and hearts. The challenge here is that we have this battle between our sinful flesh and our new spirit that God has given us upon salvation. Jesus makes this struggle clear to us in Matthew 26:41 when he says:
“Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41 NKJV)
As I’m sure you know, the level of power that it takes to follow God and not our flesh can sometimes feel impossible, but Jesus tells us through the power of prayer (not our willpower) we can overcome. Even when we are weary and weak, the Lord is willing and ready to grant us His strength to do what we cannot do or be on our own because our flesh will fail us, but God surely will not.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the strength You provide my spirit so that I may truly live in Your will for my life. Please help me remember to stay prayerful and watchful, that Your strength will lead me and not my flesh. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
