When we’re facing the unknown, messy, and hurtful seasons of life, we’re tempted to sit down and think our way out of it. We think up every possible scenario of what we need to do or be in order to get what we think we need but this overthinking just leads to anxiety. Philippians 4:6 tells us:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (ESV)
Thinking about a matter is not the same as praying about it. Yes, our thoughts have a great influence on our lives, but anxious thoughts do nothing to serve you. Prayer gives us access to power to change our situations and, more importantly, to change us. I want to encourage you today to exchange your anxiety for prayer. By doing so, you will exchange your fear for God’s strength.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the peace You offer. May I always replace my anxious thoughts with prayer, and my fear with Your power. In Jesus Christ’s name, I pray. Amen.
