The book of Lamentations is a lament or a book of sorrow and pain due to the consequences of sin by the Israelites, God’s chosen people. However, in the middle of all this despair, we find a verse of hope. Lamentations 3:22-23 reads:

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV)

Today’s verse reminds us that no matter our circumstances, God’s love is never-ending. He is faithful, and his mercies are made new every morning.

Mercy is God’s forgiveness when we don’t deserve it. It is His pardon of our sins when He has every right to make us pay for what we’ve done. It’s His compassion toward us. Every morning we are lavished with a fresh dose of His mercy to start new.

No matter what we do, God is God, and He has decided to love us and show us His mercy. We are not perfect, and we will make mistakes, but God shows us His mercy each day because He is faithful.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for your mercies that are new to me each day. Help me to remember Your goodness to me and never forget your unfailing love for me. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
