Like most moms, I make sure to monitor what my kids eat. I try to ensure they don’t eat too many sweets and snacks. If they do, they won’t desire the healthier food they really need.

This same principle applies to our spiritual lives. If we fill ourselves with the things of this world, we will not desire the God we really need. 1 John 2:15 tells us: “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” (ESV)

Our love for the world prevents us from experiencing the true love of God. The two work in opposition to each other. So, ask yourself, “What am I eating?”. Are you partaking in the cheap and fleeting things of this world, or are you savoring the eternal and life-giving things of God?  I encourage you to make every effort to fill up on God so you can experience the full and free life Christ has for you.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me. Please grant me a passion to love you instead of this world so that I may truly experience your love for me. In Jesus Christ’s name, I pray, Amen.
