In moments of anxiety, prayer connects us with the God of the universe and brings us peace beyond our circumstances. Isaiah 26:3 says:

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” (Isaiah 26:3 ESV)

It’s so important to remember that prayer isn’t just about getting what we want or changing our circumstances. It’s about connecting with the God of the universe, and when we do, we will have peace.

I woke up in the middle of the night recently, feeling anxious with some concerns on my mind. The Lord reminded me to pray about it, and I did. Although my circumstances hadn’t changed—it was still the middle of the night—I had so much peace after praying that I was able to go back to sleep. When we pray, God’s only answer isn’t just to give us what we want or change our circumstances. He also wants to give us peace in the middle of whatever we’re going through or facing. So when you’re praying to God and maybe your circumstances haven’t yet changed, or you haven’t received the answer you’re looking for, if you have peace, know that God hears your prayers.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the peace that comes from focusing on You. Help us to trust You more deeply and to seek Your presence in our prayers, knowing that You hear us and bring peace to our hearts. Amen.

Reflection: How can you shift your focus from your circumstances to God when you pray?
