June 8 • Unexpected Blessings from Prayer

Even when plans fall apart, God has a way of bringing unexpected blessings. As I recovered from an injury one summer, I was unable to do certain things. We had to cancel our travel and vacation, which really discouraged me, particularly having to cancel my children’s swim lessons because I was not able to drive them.

As I was sitting in our living room one day, I prayed to God that my kids would still have a good and fun summer despite all our canceled plans. Then, within the hour, there was a knock at our door. It was one of my children’s neighborhood friends asking if my children could come out and swim in her backyard pool. At that moment, I knew that in His own way, in His sovereignty, God was answering my prayer.

The Bible says, “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” (1 John 5:14 ESV) Prayers don’t always get answered that quickly, but please be encouraged to know that God hears every prayer you pray.

Pray: Heavenly Father, thank You for hearing our prayers and answering them in Your perfect timing. Help me to trust in Your timing and to see Your hand at work in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflect: Can you recall a time when God answered your prayer in an unexpected way?
