When we know and understand that there is a reason for our trials, we don’t lose our trust in God, thinking He would have us go through testing for no reason. James 1:2-3 tells us:
“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.” (James 1:2-3 NKJV)
James tells us the purpose of our trials is perseverance. Knowing God does not cause our trials, but will use them for our good and His glory, helps us to better maintain our joy in Him.
We’re reminded that during trials, we may feel alone, but God’s truth says: He will never leave or forsake us. (Deuteronomy 31:6) We may feel rejected, but God’s truth says: we are His children. (1 John 3:1) We may feel empty-handed, but God’s truth says: He will give us our daily bread. (Matthew 6:11) We may feel hopeless, but God’s truth says: He is the God of all hope. (Romans 15:13) We may feel weak, but God’s truth says: He is strong, especially when we are weak. (2 Corinthians 12:10) We may feel afraid and anxious, but God’s truth says: He is faithful! (2 Timothy 2:13) We must know that God will use our trials to grow us and not destroy us.
Dear God, Thank you for helping me persevere through life’s trials when I feel like giving up. Help me to see the lessons You want me to learn and draw me closer to You. Thank you for never leaving me or forsaking me with each test. In Jesus’ name, amen.
