As God’s people, we are called to praise and thank Him. This is not a suggestion, but a command. Psalm 100:1-4 says:

“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!” (Psalms 100:1-4 ESV)

From this psalmist, we see that he doesn’t shout for joy until after he sings praises. Sometimes praise comes before joy. Sometimes we can’t wait to feel joy before we praise God. When we praise God, we’re thinking about Him and not what may be making us sad. We are then reminded that our God is greater and better than anything that has us down, and because He never changes, we have joy.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you that Your joy is the source of my strength!  When I’m down or need encouragement, help me to run to You to praise and worship You. When I praise You, it reminds me that You are sovereign and leading me each step of the way.  In Jesus’ name, amen
