The Bible warns against our worldly thoughts. Romans 8:5-6 tells us:

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.” (Romans 8:5-6 ESV)

This type of worldly thinking is super prevalent in our hustle culture that feeds into the lie that our significance and satisfaction is found in the things of this world whether it be money, status, following, our looks, the opinions of others, or anything that we make an idol. But we are called to set our minds on the things of the Spirit, and on the things of God.

When the world says you need so many followers to be significant, the truth says I am intimately known and loved by the God of the universe. (Jeremiah 1:5)

When the world says you need to hustle and work to no end, Jesus says “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28 ESV)

When the world says you’re not pretty enough, smart enough, or strong enough, the Gospel preaches that God thought enough of us to send His Son to die on our behalf that we may be saved.

When we set our minds on the truth that it is God who can truly fulfill us, we find life and peace. Today, I encourage you to turn your attention to who God says you are and not the world.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for helping me to live by Your spirit, and not by my flesh. Help me to fix my eyes on You and let Your truth lead and guide me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
