I know sometimes we just want to tell it like it is, but pointing out someone’s weakness is never going to change them. Only the Holy Spirit can do that. It’s not about them agreeing with us; it’s about them agreeing with God. I’m not saying you just throw a whole bunch of Bible verses at them; your heart needs to be pure in the matter because people can tell if you just want to be right and if you really want to help them. This is why the Bible instructs us with this truth in Ephesians 4:15:
Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, – Ephesians 4:15 ESV
The purpose of speaking the truth in love is to remind our sister of her value and potential in Christ, only found in the Gospel. She should take her eyes off of herself, her weaknesses, and failures and direct them to Christ who is the only one who can truly empower her to do better and live a life that is in line with the truth of the Gospel which says she is valued, treasured and loved. I want to encourage you today to use your words to build up and not tear down.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the power you have given me through my words. I pray for the wisdom to use my words to lift others up and not tear them down. In Jesus Christ Name I pray, Amen.
