If we want to experience true freedom, we must work unto the Lord—not our boss, not our kids, not our friends, not even our spouse. It’s nice to be appreciated and recognized. But sometimes the very people we serve will fail to see all we do. So if we don’t want to grow resentful, angry, or contentious—which are all draining feelings—we are instructed to work for the Lord. Colossians 3:23 says:

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. (ESV)

The Lord always sees us, always appreciates us, and is always proud of his daughters. We can’t logically expect any human to grant us this type of security. We can’t even give it ourselves. So work unto the Lord, give the grace he gives you, and live free.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the purpose you have given me. May I always work for you and not human masters. In Jesus Christ’s name, I pray. Amen.
