Sometimes we’re tired because we’re filling up on the wrong fuel. We run to entertainment, distraction, people, shopping, or social media for a much needed break, but those things can’t satisfy us the way we always need. There is a spiritual rest that God grants that we can’t find in any of the things of this world, but only God Himself. Jesus tells the woman at the well:
“Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:13-14 ESV)
As eternal beings, the temporary things of this world will never be enough and only leave our flesh needing more and more to no satisfaction. Often, our weariness comes from using all our energy to seek things that were never meant to satisfy us in the first place. But God promises to satisfy our souls with good things, (Psalm 103:5) when we seek Him for our deepest desires and needs. Today, I invite you to be filled with the eternal things of God as you drink from His never ending cup.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me the lasting and eternal things of peace, love, and joy that will fill me up and refresh my soul. When I’m tempted to be satisfied by temporal things, redirect me back to You and Your living water. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray. Amen.
